I have been working freelance for several years now on several projects, and while it has its downsides, the fact that I can organize my own time according to inspiration and different energy flows allows me to work daily without quite feeling it as a burden (well, a little bit; and then I’m not completely without a boss :D).
A while ago I made a series of retirement pillows for people who have worked for decades in offices and other places where they had to deal with an extra layer of stress (in most cases, though by not means all; some bosses can be a pleasure to work with).
As Zazzle has a 40% discount on pillows today, I thought I’d showcase some of my designs.

As you look through the images, remember that the pillows have on the back the name of the retiree and the date of their retirement. Like so (or click on the pillows to see them on Zazzle):
I enjoyed the artsy background of this pillow but if you want something more sedate, I have that too. Here’s an example of a pillow with toned-down colors. If you click on it, you’ll see more color palettes to choose from. The superimposed bits of text read “Happy Retirement!” + No alarm clock + Family and Friends + Travel + Pension with no tension + Me time + Shooting the breeze + No boss. Phew, that is a lot going for retirement! 🙂
Then there’s one with a colorful splash and the text “Goodbye tension / Hello pension.” These are meant to be funny statements, but looking at them now I see they have the type of humor a recent retiree might enjoy—some rather old-fashioned humor. Which is allowed, I guess :), and good for these retirement gifts. While I often use my own quotes/slogans, for these people I chose some popular taglines.
I also made some pillows with more impasto brushstrokes and taglines such as the above + “No structure / No problem.”
Finally, I have two more old-fashioned designs with elegant floral watercolors.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this presentation. I do hope you’ll find among these pillows one that will be perfect for a recent retiree in your life. These gifts are high-quality and will not disappoint. My favorite niece has one with a unicorn design and she’s been quite happy with it. They are made of sturdy stretchy Simplex fabric.
And remember these designs all have on the back the name of the person and their date of retirement.
