I know there’s still St. Patrick’s before the Catholic Easter of March 31, but I’m already excited about Easter, even though Orthodox Christian Easter falls really late this year, on May 5. It all has to do with the spring equinox and the next full moon along with the Julian calendar in seemingly complicated ways.
While less fun-filled than the Catholic and Protestant Easter, with its egg hunts and a plethora of bunny chocolates, Orthodox Christian Easter does have the advantage of three holy days, two of which, Sunday and Monday, are public holidays in Romania.
Also, families usually get together for Easter, just as for Christmas, and the focus is on companionship and enjoying the delicious meals as well as remembering a lot of the religious aspects of the holiday as we prepare for Easter during Holy Week and then as we attend a service at midnight on Sunday.
Easter in Romania is also about decorating eggs, red or other colors. I like it when we do so using plants with small leaves and then wrapping the egg in an old stocking before dunking it into the dye. Families with children, or simply people who are more artistic, also paint Easter eggs. I’ve seen some marvelous creations over the years. And then we have traditional Easter eggs decorated by etching the design into wax or filling the outside of the egg with small beads. I have a small basket of both, and I hope to buy some more this year as well at a fair at the Village Museum of the National Peasant Museum here in Bucharest.
But for those of you who celebrate in softer ways, with plush bunnies and a lot of chocolate, I have some gifts from Amazon and Zazzle you may consider. I have enjoyed reading about them because I can imagine the joy little ones have with them.
I’ve also found some creative gifts for adults. I love artistic knickknacks and cheerful objects.
And I’ve also created a series of Easter products myself.
Enjoy!

As there is no great holiday without good chocolate, here’s an assortment of bunnies from Ghirardelli.

You also have the option of baking some great chocolate, of course, but from my forays into pastry making, I got the sense that it’s harder to mimic the qualities of good chocolate, which is why when I make cakes these days I melt some instead of just adding cocoa and butter. But if you and your kids feel adventurous, here’s a mold tray for large chocolate-and-candy eggs.
For the kids’ romp in the grass, I found some carrot-shaped plastic containers filled with plush bunny rabbits. You can then keep the plastic containers to store items like candy or chocolate in them.
I also found a very cute inflatable yard-decoration toy, with a smiling bunny rabbit in a large—5-feet long—carrot car.

If you’d rather have a metal decoration in the yard for Easter, here are two Easter bunnies, boy and girl, one of them pushing a basket full of carrots and the other one pulling one full of decorated Easter eggs.

For children and adults, I found two handmade bunny rabbit dolls, two cute and soft rabbit dolls with vintage rustic air.
There are also nice Easter products on Zazzle for those of you who like happy Easter bathmats, which you can bring out every Easter. Note that you can also transfer the design to a table placemat or doormat if you wish.

And here’s a funny Happy Easter doormat from Amazon.
Back to Zazzle, they have some nice personalized Easter candles. I’m showing below one of them, with a watercolor of cute Easter bunnies.

I also like this second one, with colorful eggs hanging from green tree branches. You can personalize the name of the family or Happy Easter.

If you want something more religious, here’s a vanilla sandalwood scented candle with a beautiful floral design with the words Easter Blessings and again with a personalized family name.

Finally, I’m including some of my own Easter designs for Zazzle’s vanilla sandalwood scented candles, with the Christ has Risen religious message and my traditionally decorated Easter eggs. I’ve made them with or without a personalized family name. I hope you like them.

I’ve also made pillar candles, on red, green, blue, pale blue (shown below), and turquoise (shown below) backgrounds. And I’ve used the same color backgrounds for the above models as well.
