Best Bonus Mom Ever & Other Personalized Photo Tees, Mugs, Pillows & Keychains for Stepmoms and Other Second Moms

Creating designs for Mother’s Day fills me with great joy. I’ve been blessed in my life with two amazing mothers, my natural mother and a second mother (or bonus mother, as they are called these days 🙂 ), and I’m also close to my godmother.

I lost my bonus mother some years ago, and I miss her very much. When she passed away and her son cleaned her house, he found lots of postcards and trinkets I had sent her over the years. He said his mother had kept all of them—and she was quite a frugal person, unencumbered by many material possessions. I wasn’t a product designer then, but now that I make personalized products on Zazzle I’m working to create designs that would bring people joy in celebrating their close relationship.

One popular design I sold over the years that can be personalized for a second mother or any other person is Proud Grandma, with a photo held up by four hearts. Here’s a revised version with the text already customized for a bonus mother.

For this year I’ve created new T-shirt designs, among them one with BEST MAMA EVER and another with BEST BONUS MAMA EVER, with a photo collage with three personalized images. Photo collages are popular but most people don’t have a whole lot of good photos for these T-shirts, so I went with a total of four images at the most. You can change either of these designs to BEST GRANDMA EVER if you wish.

If you don’t have four good photos, or if you’d rather buy a mug, I have several designs available. Here’s my favorite.

Ah, but I also made new pillows for this year. I hope you enjoy them. Not that I don’t like my other pillow designs, because I do, especially one of them, with an artsy watercolor with wax stains and various bits of text listing the qualities of an “ADORABLE and AMAZING” mother or bonus mother. Here’s that design in turquoise (it comes in different colors).

If you’d prefer an accent pillow with a photo collage, I have one with 3 photos, based on the Best Bonus Mom EVER mug design above, and another one, with 4 photos.

Here’s the pillow with a collage of 3 photos and a personalized name for a second mother gift for Mother’s Day or her birthday. It comes in yellow, light pink, and a mesmerizing periwinkle blue. Here’s the pink one (the image will take you to all three color versions).

Note that you can customize all the text. You can write, for instance, something like this: “Alexis Benjamin, Most Amazing Mom EVER!” Here’s what it would look like on the pillow with a yellow background (I have, in fact, created a new design with this text, in case people look for something of that sort for their second mother).

Or you could write “Alexis Benjamin, Mom Extraordinaire!” The choice is yours.

I’ve also made square pillows with a photo collage of 4 images, the same design as that on one of the T-shirts but now with vibrant background colors (the back of the pillows is a solid yellow/pink/blue periwinkle).

I’ve also made a Best Bonus Mom Ever pillow with just one photo. While making it I kept thinking this was the pillow I would have liked to send to my bonus mother but she passed away before I got this idea. There’s something about the soft volume of pillows that makes them great fun and also very practical. You could also treat them like keepsakes you’ll never wash, for instance, if you won’t be using them much, but I think they are great fun to lay your head on while watching a movie on the living room couch. They also provide great support when reading in a comfy armchair.

Again, you can also personalize this photo pillow for Grandma, your favorite aunt, etc. And, just like my other new pillow designs, it comes in 3 colors: yellow, light pink, and blue periwinkle.

And let’s not forget keychains! I find them to be great bargain gifts for Mother’s Day and also very practical. Just as people like to renew their air fresheners with some images of their kids or other family, they also enjoy having personalized photo keychains. So here’s my latest keychain design for a bonus mom.
