Roland Garros is underway. I caught some glimpses yesterday of Carlos Alcaraz playing Dennis Shapovalov, and even though Shapo was impressive, he couldn’t match the ingenuity of Alcaraz, who, at least in the last points I saw, was out of this world.
I would have loved to see Nadal play against Alcaraz at this edition of the French Open, but it wasn’t meant to be. Nadal is still recovering after various injuries (hip, lower abdomen, right leg), and, anyway, only a Nadal in top form could match Alcaraz’s prowess.
It’s pretty amazing what this young Spaniard has accomplished since he turned pro in 2018 (at fifteen). He seems very confident on the courts these days and looks like it’s blooming, in some sense, looking truly resplendent in his game, especially when playing really good opponents.
Alcaraz has won 10 singles titles so far, including one Grand Slam (the 2022 US Open) and 4 Masters tournaments.
I hope he will inspire many young people to play tennis, either professionally or as a hobby.
Here’s my little contribution to the love of this sport. Enjoy!
